Sabratha lies to the North West of Libya on the coast with spectacular sea views. This city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site with it's trade port dating back to 500BC. The city today is ruins, but there are temples, a magnificent third century theater, a forum and so much more to see, giving you a true idea of the size of this once very busy port town in North Africa. The city was rebuilt after an earthquake struck the area in the fourth century, but took a rapid decline in the fifth century thanks to the Vandal misrules of the area. Soak Up The History Walking around Sabratha, you are able to soak up the history and culture of this once thriving port town. Take a walk through the stunning theater, a large part of this structure still stands today with it's impressive columns and arches adorned in beautiful artwork. Stop in at the Forum surrounded by crumbling walls. Take note of the decorative and inscribed pillars, monuments and fabulous mosaics. See the mosaics of the House of Jason Magnus, this is one of the many monuments standing for you to explore when visiting this port town of Sabratha. There is a host of temples, many lie in ruins, but you are still able to make out the magnitude of these once magnificent structures from the Isis Temple and Serapis Temple to the Liber Pater Temple and Antonine Temple. The Baths sit on the cliff edge overlooking the ocean offering spectacular sea views. The sandstone blocks complete with the magnificent mosaics show the beauty that the people once absorbed while enjoying what the baths had to offer.
