One of the highlights of camel trekking in the Sahara Desert of Libya is the magnificent lakes that fill the area. The last place you would expect to find water logged lakes and yet Libya has them on offer which adds picturesque beauty to the already magnificent golden dunes.

The first thing is the experience of riding a camel through golden dunes is an experience you will keep with you for years to come. What a great way to spend a holiday.

Erg Ubari is a towering golden dune that will take your breath away and most likely where your camel trekking adventure will start.

Lake Ubari is a spectacular lake surrounded by palm trees and towering dunes. The picture perfect moment when you see so much water surrounded by so much sand. There are twenty lakes in total to see and explore.

 

Mandara is an oasis area and well worth seeing before heading to Gaberouan, a lake oasis. You can swim here or just be amazed by the abundance of natural beauty.

Things to Consider

The Sahara Desert is considered the hottest desert in the world so it doesn’t matter what time of year you choose to visit be sure to carry plenty of bottled water and keep yourself hydrated.

Your basic sun cream, sun hat and sunglasses should be in your bag and use your sun cream throughout the day, it can get very hot there and those who aren’t used to this type of sun will burn quickly, ruining your holiday.

Wear cool and loose fitting clothing, so you can sit back and enjoy the ride.
