Visiting the wonderful and fascinating country of Libya promises to be a trip you won’t soon forget. Whilst known mainly for its controversial and turbulent history, Libya has in recent years embarked on an ambitious drive to woo tourists back to her shores, and because not many people have visited this proud nation, there is the added incentive of exploring a largely un-spoilt terrain.

Libya, located in the north part of the African continent, is a curious fusion of Arabic, European, and African influences, proving irresistible to all who are fortunate enough to visit her shores. While much has been made of its pristine stretch of Mediterranean Sea coastline and cosmopolitan capital city of Tripoli, another popular reason that tourists are attracted to Libya is because of the opportunity to explore and discover the riches of the Sahara Desert. The Sahara Desert is a brilliant and effervescent kaleidoscope of sandy dunes and hills, caves, majestic mountain peaks, and tranquil oases, all of which enriches the region with many defining contrasts and colours.
One of the ideal ways in which to see all the Sahara has to offer is via camel rides or treks through the area. There are a plethora of tour guides readily available to assist you during your sojourn while you survey the unique beauty and serenity of regions like the Akakus Mountains and other surrounding parts – all in relative discretion and solitude. Witness the amazing rock art paintings and drawings in the desert caves or explore the ruins left by the Romans, Greeks, and Phoenicians in areas such as Apollonia, Sabratha, and Leptis Magna. With all this and much more camel riding through the Libyan Desert promises to be a memorable and unforgettable experience.
